Electronic Records
The Office of the Chief Information
Officer is responsible for establishing the policy
and standards for the management information for
the Government of British Columbia. For electronic
records (e-records) these policies and standards
ensure:
- Consistent management of e-records through
the use of ARCS and ORCS - government’s
standard classification and scheduling system
- Retention of sufficient e-records to support
and document government decision-making and
transactions
- Identification, selection and disposition
of e-records
- Preservation and transfer of archival e-records
to the government archives
The Government of British Columbia
has established a common Enterprise
Document and Records Management
System (EDRMS) infrastructure for effectively
managing all government records. This infrastructure
builds upon existing standards (e.g. ARCS and
ORCS) and processes for managing physical records
and incorporates requirement for e-records.
For guidelines on managing e-records, see the Records Management Recommended Practices and FAQs:
For more information on services and support
