Records Management

The Corporate Records Management Branch, Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) provides central records management services and support to ministries, Crown corporations and agencies within the government of British Columbia. The effective management of recorded information enables government to support decision-making, reduce costs, meet business, legal and accountability requirements and preserve British Columbia's documentary heritage.


The Corporate Records Management Branch of the OCIO is responsible for government recorded information management policy, standards and procedures. The branch is also responsible for:

  • providing central direction and control for government recorded information management programs and activities
  • advising and assisting ministries to effectively manage their recorded information, regardless of media or format
  • establishing, maintaining and administering the centralized offsite records storage and disposition program for government
