Information Management/Information Technology (IM/IT) Plan

The Office of the Chief Information Officer is leading the IM/IT plan for government.

As British Columbians become more reliant on information management and information technology (IM/IT), government has recognized that client-centered service delivery will only be achieved when technology is leveraged and information is shared across government.

The OCIO is implementing an Information Management/Information Technology (IM/IT) plan for government to improve information sharing to better achieve citizen outcomes. The IM/IT plan is about securely connecting systems and people, identifying evidence-based outcomes and making sound investment decisions, all supported by a next generation information structure.

In addition, the Ministry of Labour and Citizens’ Services has been mandated to transform both service delivery and the information management and information technology infrastructure to enable it. This positions the ministry to play a key role in supporting the strategic goals of government.

These goals are far reaching and comprehensive and cannot be achieved by a single ministry delivering fragmented services in isolation from other ministries and the broader public sector. Truly citizen-centered services are achieved when government collaborates across organizational boundaries to harness advancements in technology and share information through connected people and connected systems.

In order to deliver on this directive the OCIO is taking sweeping steps to transform the way it does business. We have developed a strategic enterprise approach, and IM/IT plan for the province of B.C. which focuses on three desired outcomes of information sharing to achieve better outcomes, service transformation for citizens, while ensuring value for money. These desired outcomes are supported by five work streams: Maximizing IM/IT investments, Connected Systems, Connected People, Informed Decision Making, and Partner Engagement.
