BCeID Next Generation
British Columbia currently provides identification and authentication services for government online services through BCeID - including:
- a self-registered (or unverified) type of identification that supports anonymous or pseudonymous access to government online services, and
- a verified electronic identity for businesses that wish to access government online services. In this case, the identity of the business is verified against the BC Corporate Registry during the registration process.
In 2008, the BCeID program will introduce a verified electronic identity for citizens that involves an over the counter identity-proofing process.
The Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) is working closely with the BCeID program on a project called “BCeID Next Generation” or BCeIDng. The focus of BCeIDng is to consolidate new concepts, emerging technologies and solutions to create a next generation identity management service.
For more information please contact the Architecture and Standards Branch of the OCIO.
